The description here is a little long but we wanted you to have some general information about the Terry Farrell Firefighter's Fund and info about the event.

The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund was established in memory of Terry Farrell, a decorated member of Rescue 4 FDNY who, along with 342 of his brothers, perished on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center attack. The fund assists firefighters and their families with medical, educational, and equipment needs. The organization supports the firefighters who serve our communities. The fund is operated predominantly by firefighters, along with friends of the fund. They operate on a volunteer basis in order to give back to the firefighting community. There are currently 14 chapters nationwide. Money raised at the stair climbing event stays here to assist Georgia firefighters.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 11th, at The Towers at Wildwood at 3200 Windy Hill Road, Marietta. There are two ways you can participate in this event - either as a climber or as a volunteer. Those who register for the event  will be given a lanyard with a photo of the firefighter for whom you are climbing/volunteering.

Info for climbers - The climb begins at 1:00 p.m. Wildwood has two sides: one is 15 stories and the other is 16. The goal of climbers is to climb 110 flights of stairs representing the stairs in the World Trade Center. Climbers can choose either tower and then climb the 15 or 16 flights of stairs, take the elevator down and repeat until you reach 110 flights. Everyone is welcome to try the climb. There are exits on every floor so there is no demand to make the 110 flights, but if you are interested you can always try. It is recommended climbers arrive around noon.

Event organizers tell us - "This is not a timed event, and it is totally up to the climber how far they go, or don't go.  We have many people that sign up - but honestly couldn't make it up once. The idea is to honor the heroes that did it on 9/11 just by carrying their lanyard and picture that day. No climbing necessary, we appreciate the donation and just signing up!"

Info for volunteers: This is a family friendly event with all types of activities taking place before the climb. Volunteers are needed to help set up tables, register participants, run raffles, distribute lanyards, and assist overall with running the event. Help is also needed cleaning up after the event. Organizers request that volunteers arrive between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Duties will be assigned upon what is needed at your arrival.

Although organizers do not require volunteers  to pay the $30 registration fee, please remember that this is a great cause and donations are appreciate. You can register at http://www.terryfundgaevents.org/stair-climb.html There will be a post-event party at The Wing, who we are partnering with on the day's events. Everyone registering by the end of July will receive free Creature Comforts beer and a "special little gift from the brewery," at the party, according to organizers, who add, it is also important to register early as "our goal is to get everyone to register on line because we supply free lunch and the more people that sign up at the event, the harder it is to be sure not to run out of food. A head count always is a plus." More information is available at the organization's website http://www.terryfund.org/georgia.

Please let us know if you are going to participate as either a climber or volunteer at
